New Warden Named at Honor & Boot Camp
Newcastle (WDOC) -- Wyoming Department of Corrections (WDOC) director Bob Lampert has announced
his selection of Steven Hargett as the new warden at the Wyoming Honor
Conservation Camp and Wyoming Boot Camp in Newcastle. He replaces Ken Keller
who moved to the Wyoming Honor Farm in Riverton as warden there. Warden
Hargett will start his new position at the end of May.
Director Lampert said, "After all these years in corrections, Warden Hargett still loves corrections, admires the people who work in corrections, and was
impressed enough by every interaction he has had with the WDOC and its
employees to want to join our team. In my assessment, he will be an
excellent addition to our greater corrections family."
Warden Hargett comes to the Wyoming Department of Corrections with 33 years
of correctional and jail operations experience. He entered corrections as a
correctional officer and quickly rose through positions of increasing
leadership responsibility to superintendent (warden) in the Mississippi
Department of Corrections. From 1978 until 2000, he served as a warden in
the departments of corrections for the states of Mississippi, Arizona, and
Oklahoma.
In 2000, Warden Hargett began employment in the private corrections sector,
where he served as a warden in both Colorado and New Mexico. Most recently
and since March 2006, Warden Hargett has served as Vice President for
Operations for GRW Corporation for Colorado, Missouri and Kansas overseeing
two privately operated prisons and a city jail.
In addition to his correctional work experience, Warden Hargett has a
Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice form Delta State University
in Mississippi. He is a member of and an auditor for the American
Correctional Association and hopes to help lead our agency and WHCC in
particular to ACA accreditation within the next two years.
